A multi-purpose outdoor cooking appliance powered by a hand-held drill, specifically designed for the male tailgating community.

Client:
Omar Hamarneh

With the tailgating community in mind, this product was designed to make cooking in the outdoors easy and practical, with no source of electricity to power the appliance. By using this product, users can now cook extensive and sophisticated recipes that require the use of appliances that are not commonly portable, such as a hand /immersion blender, a countertop blender and a chopper /food processor.

In a nutshell, this product consists of a casing that holds a gearbox. This gearbox attaches to a regular battery powered drill, which in turn powers the immersion blender and the countertop blender. The job of the gearbox is to drastically increase the drill’s RPM in order to successfully power the blenders and be able to blend hard foods like ice. The immersion blender is designed with blades that are attached to a connection piece specifically engineered for this product. The immersion blender can therefore power the countertop blender by sliding into the blender’s container and, using the specifically engineered connection piece, attaching to the blade inside the container.

Design process

The process started with a ton of research. Online, in stores, at home. I looked at all kinds of cooking appliances, bought and took apart blenders, food processors, gears, until I got a good idea of how these products work.

I then moved onto coming up with the design concept and then engineering the moving parts to validate and test my designs using cardboard and 3D printed mock ups.

After validating the prototypes, I moved onto producing a working prototype and testing it.

Below are some engineering details

I finished by finalising the design and aesthetics, creating and detailing 3D renderings of all the components of the design , and finally creating a functional full scale prototype.
